Secondly the engine is pretty unrefined for such a modern car, and in my opinion you can hear excessive noise through the cabin even at tickover. Hi there, I'm looking at buying a second hand Hilux and have some interestingt options in both the 2.4 and 3.0 litre diesel engine variants. A few people I know have made vague mentions of issues with the 2.4 engine which have been addressed in the new 2.8.

The2.0 D - 4D engine is one of the most popular Toyota diesel engines produced in the last decade. Debuted at Avensis 1999. With 110 hp. A few months later,

Dieselis expensive to tax. To drive, the RAV4 is a typical Toyota – light steering keeps it from being engaging, but it corners well and has good ride comfort over bumps and bad surfaces. The Cananybody tell me if the Toyota d4d engines are prone to this problem also? Also, if so, would good maintenance possibly prevent this problem happening? Anything else to specifically look out for when looking at these cars? Would there be a big difference between the 2.0 d4d engine and the 1.4 d4d engine in terms of economy?
Stilldon't see how this ties in with VSC/TRC though. As for my cold start problem the technician reckons my starter motor could be the problem, as he said 90% of D4D avensis starting faults are due to this. Apparently, if the ECU doesn't detect the crank speed is high enough it won't fire the injectors.
